Excerpted from the April 2012 Annual Report:
Lutheran Men in Mission (LMM) is an initiative of the ELCA intended to assist Lutheran congregations in establishing effective men’s ministry. The ministry is about men of the congregation and community encountering Jesus Christ through relationships and service to His church. Our activities at Peace tend to center around one or more individuals or groups in service than emerging from a core national or synod organization. Some example activities are care for the church building & grounds, crafting faith chests for member baptisms, and large-scope building projects for the church. Interactive activities are planned with the Elementary students throughout the year, and a Peace contingency of men attend the annual SW Synod LMM retreat.
ROMEOs are Retired Men Eating Out. This group of men meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month. Breakfast is enjoyed at River Inn in Cold Spring, Granite Edge Café in Rockville and Dino’s Café in Richmond. Weekly participants contribute $1 donations for ministry donations to organizations such as Peck Far, Jamaica Boy’s Home, Veteran’s Hospital, and Anna Marie’s Home in St. Cloud. The group organized as a men’s ministry at Peace, but welcomes other men from the community. Donation totals this year include: Jamaica Boys Home $210, John & Linda Peck $132, Anna Marie’s Home $129, Veteran’s Hospital $87.
Building & Grounds. This spring, a number of members of Peace stepped forward with their time and talents for needed lawn care. In the near future, we hope to have our new parking lot blacktopped. We are in the process of getting bids finalized. Plans have been drawn up and presented to the council for landscaping ideas and planting around the building. These projects will most likely be done in stages, as money becomes available. Greg Berg, our council representative this past year, was very instrumental in helping us complete the Rain Garden with matching funds. Many people have asked when we are going to start on the canopy, and the main entrance’s wind break. We will be working on getting a permit soon.
